The World of Senior Portrait Photography

Ten months into this adventure of professional photography and I've had a lot of fun trying out a lot of things. Family portraits, head shots, events and even an adoption and a wedding! One specialty that seems to make a lot of sense is Senior Portraits. I have had a heart for high school kids since I first volunteered to chaperone a church ski trip in I think it was '94. I was a newlywed and still active duty flying in the Navy. One of my first kids just posted a picture of her own kid starting 7th grade. Wow.

More recently I've been doing life with the girls of the Class of 2019. Since they were in 7th grade. As a small group leader in our middle school and now high school youth groups I've loved getting to know these girls and being there for them when they need me. I've learned so much from them and hopefully they've learned a bit from me too. Meeting weekly and doing fall retreats, spring break trips to build houses in Mexico, houseboat retreats on Shasta Lake, and other fun get togethers. Wouldn't trade a minute of it. Made a lot of sense to look into the world of senior portrait photography as all my beloved girls were approaching their senior year.

The potential honor of being chosen as their senior portrait photographer has inspired me to work my tail off educating and preparing myself. Last year I had no idea what a senior model rep team was and now I have one! We had a great time in late June doing a sunset hike and coming back to my house for an ice cream and picture picking party. I have six girls in my official team now and we've done two more super fun sessions. These girls post my pics on their Instagram accounts and get more attention in one hour than I can ever hope for on my own account! I can't wait to do their official portraits this year.

Last spring a few of my favorites from the class of 2018 gave me the opportunity to get my feet wet in this specialty and I absolutely loved it! I wish them the best as they are now heading off to college. And now I feel a bit like I did when my youngest started college a year ago. My class of 2019 girls are officially seniors. Such an exciting time in life filled with so many emotions. I love them so much and am looking forward to seeing how this last year of high school unfolds.
